Palmdale Girl Wins National Judo Title

Carleigh Hobson, a 15 year old from Palmdale, is already California State Junior and Senior champion. On the 4th of July weekend, she traveled to Honolulu, Hawaii to compete in the USJF Jr. National Championships. Not only did she win gold in her weight division, but Carleigh was awarded the Best Technique trophy. To top out her weekend, Hobson was the Captain of the Southern California Girls team, which also took the gold.

"This has been a great year for Carleigh", stated her coach, Steve Bell, "and we expect great things of her in the future." Carleigh is a member of the Antelope Valley Judo Club in Lancaster, which is home to some of the best junior players in the United States.

Also traveling to Hawaii was 11 year old, Eric McDaniel of Lancaster. He managed to win four fights, and narrowly missed placing in the medals. "I’m very proud of both players", said Coach Bell. "This was a very tough Nationals with over 900 competitors from all over the United States. Both players represented their state and their club magnificently."
